Things To Know About Form 1099’s

Individuals, partnerships, corporations, or other organizations engaged in a trade or business are required to file Form 1099 if they paid $600 or more to the following:

  1.  Independent contractors (the recipient is an individual or a partnership – not a corporation)
  2. Payments to attorneys (including corporations). Form 1099’s are also issued to attorneys even they received less than $600.00.
  3. Rents except to real estate agents
  4. Royalty payments
  5. Persons who did not provide TIN and subject to backup withholding
  6. Medical or health care service providers (physician or corporation)

Form 1099s must be provided to the recipient by January 31 and to the IRS by March 2 (paper file) or March 31 (e-file).

Information needed to prepare Form 1099 are the recipient’s name, address, social security, and the amount of payments for the year.
